Dr Bartłomiej Mróz of the Department of Multimedia Systems, ETI Faculty, and also a member of the Board of the Polish Section of the AES, has been awarded 2nd Prize in the Marek Kwiek Competition for young acousticians, held at the 72nd Open Seminar on Acoustics and 39th Symposium on Hydroacoustics (Acoustics 2026), Krynica Morska, 14-18 September 2026.
The awarded paper, Comparison of Six-Degrees-of-Freedom Rendering Algorithms for Classical Music Reproduction, presents a perceptual study of five 6DoF audio rendering algorithms that allow a listener to move freely through a recorded sound scene in virtual reality. Its main finding is a dissociation between source localization accuracy and perceived audio quality: simple interpolation methods were rated on par with the reference system despite significantly higher localization error.
The conference was organized by the Gdańsk Division of the Polish Acoustical Society, Gdańsk University of Technology, and the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Sopot.
